Sometimes the unexpected happens, and having additional coverage can help protect your family financially. That’s why AHEAD offers voluntary accident, hospital indemnity and critical illness plans to supplement your medical and disability coverage. If you choose to enroll in any of the voluntary plans, you pay the full cost of coverage.

Voluntary Accident Insurance
Accident coverage provides a lump sum payment when an accident occurs, such as children’s sports injuries, emergency dental work or calling an ambulance.
- Provides cash benefits if you or a covered family member is accidentally injured while off the job
- Benefits are focused on family, safety and accident prevention

Voluntary Critical Illness Insurance
Critical illness provides a lump sum benefit if you or a covered dependent suffer from a critical illness, such as heart attack, stroke, cancer, and much more.
- The benefit amount is paid in addition to what is covered under your medical insurance
- Includes access to a personal health advocate who can assist you in managing healthcare services for you and your enrolled dependents.

Voluntary Hospital Indemnity Insurance
In the event of a major illness or injury, hospital indemnity coverage pays out a lump sum, which can be used for any purpose, including to help pay the out-of-pocket expenses your medical plan may not cover. You must be actively at work to enroll, and you can choose coverage for yourself and your family members. Please note, this plan is not classified as health insurance.
- For hospital admission, the plan pays up to $1,000 per confinement up to 4 times per year.
- For ICU admission, the plan pays up to $2,000.
- For Hospital Confinement, the plan pays up to $200 per day. For ICU Confinement, the plan pays up to $400 with a 30-day maximum.
