Healthcare FSA

Set aside before-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses. The maximum contribution to the healthcare FSA is $3,400 annually. To help you not lose your funds, AHEAD will allow you to roll over up to $680 of your healthcare FSA balance to the next plan year. Any funds remaining in your account after the roll over are forfeited.

The healthcare FSA funds are available for use at the beginning of the year for eligible expenses, such as:

  • Deductibles
  • Coinsurance
  • Copayments
  • Vision expenses (contact lenses, eye glasses, laser eye surgery)
  • Prescription costs

Limited Purpose Healthcare FSA

Under IRS guidelines, Healthcare FSAs and HSAs cannot be used in conjunction with one another. You can choose to enroll in a Limited Purpose Healthcare FSA if you are in a HDHP with an HSA.

Dependent Care FSA

Set aside before-tax dollars for eligible dependent care expenses, such as day care. The maximum contribution to the dependent care FSA is $7,500 annually.* The funds are available to use at the beginning of the year (or once enrolled for new hires). You must incur all expenses in the plan year. You can submit your current plan year expenses for reimbursement—expenses must be submitted by March 15 of the following year. Any funds remaining after March 15 are forfeited.

* There may be exceptions to the annual limit depending on eligibility.

Use before-tax dollars for eligible transportation expenses, such as:

  • Qualified parking
  • Transit
  • Vanpooling

You can schedule or change your contribution for each month by 11:59 pm CT on the 13th of the preceding month (e.g., by 11:59 pm CT on February 13th for your March election). Contributions are withheld on the second payroll of the month.
